The Reverie Video Awards commenced its first round in May of 2006.

It came about upon discussion between the two administrators of the vidding community Reverie - Katie and Aimee. There were so many talented members plugging their videos on the board, we figured why not give them an award for their efforts? The peer voting (rather than with select judges) was chosen because we feel the community itself should vote for their favorites.

Every month, active members who plug their videos (up to 2 per vidder) are automatically entered into that month's round. They are then divided up into 9 or 10 categories. These may vary from round to round, categories can be combined; added; or taken away depending on the number of submissions.

Best Alternative (videos under 1 minute, AU videos, tributes, trailers, animation/video game videos, episodics etc. Anything that goes outside the normal conventions of vidding)
Best B/A Alternative or Best Buffy Episodic
(depending on the nomination numbers this category may be added. It includes episodics for SVP and other alternative videos related to Buffy and Angel)
Best AU
(depending on the nomination numbers this category may be added. It includes any alternate universe or reality videos, particularly those relating to slash relationships)
Best Vidlet
(any video under 2 minutes)
Best TV
(all tv videos)
Best TV Drama
(any video based on a tv show that is not supernatural eg. Veronica Mars)
Best TV Supernatural
(videos based on tv shows that have supernatural elements eg. Buffy)
Best Whedonverse (videos that are either based on Buffy, Angel or Firefly)
Best Movie
(all movie videos)
Best Character
(a video studying one character or their POV)
Best Shipper/Relationship
(videos that study a relationship between two characters)
Best Editing
(all videos are entered, but the one that demonstrates the most skill in editing wins)
Best Song Choice/Use of Music
(all videos are entered, but the song choice that best enhances the narrative wins)
Most Notable (a video demonstrating excellence in all aspects. It is selected each round by Katie and Aimee and will often be a video that has been overlooked but deserves recognition)

Winners are then decided by a vote-off at Reverie. Each category is given a separate poll where members can select which video they think is most deserving. After 3-5 days (depending on the round), votes are calculated and the winners of each category are then entered into Best Video.

Each round has a rotation in award makers. So far we have been lucky to have the talents of graphic artists Charmax, Adam, Milly, Jon, Katie, Sarah Beth, Kevin and Issa.
